About Braintree Mencap
Braintree District Mencap was formed in 1955 to help people with learning disabilities and their families. We have a broad membership throughout the Braintree District and offer a range of activities and social opportunities to adults with a learning disability. Braiantree Mencap also has it’s own “Family Support Service” which is a free advice and advocacy serivce for our members, their families and their Support Workers.
We hold a variety of classes and activities throughout the week including Musicmania, Art & Craft, Make & Bake, Funky Moves and much more. Our popular Thursday evening Gateway Club is very well attended and includes Disco nights, Bingo, Karaoke, Games Night, Talent nights to name a few! Each Thursday evening is a different theme, planned and delivered with the help of our Gateway Member’s Committee. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, inclusive environment for people with learning disabilities to come together to socialise, connect with others, learn, relax and most importantly have fun!
In addition to our regular weekly timetable of activities we organise various trips, outings, fundraisers and fayres throughout the year. All funds raised go back into the charity and allow us to continue to offer our services to all those who need them.
Braintree District Mencap is a registered Charity in the UK, Charity Number: 1192674 We are affiliated to Royal Mencap but are responsible for raising all of our own funds to enable us to continue to operate. We receive no statutory funding.
