Braintree Mencap offers two educational Life Skills classes during the week. The first of which is on a Monday morning from 10.o0-1pm, and the second is held on a Wednesday from 11.30-2.30pm.
This enables up to 20 people with a learning disability to learn how to shop for, prepare and cook a healthy meal from scratch. Our members with a learning disability choose what meals they would like to learn how to cook. After we have eaten, we all learn together a different skill each week which aids independent living. This includes things like food safety and hygiene in the kitchen, laundry skills, financial budgeting, first aid, road safety, keeping safe in the community, and basic computer skills.
Our members with a learning disability are key to the design of this class, suggesting what skills they would like to learn, or know more about, and each subject is taught in a fun environment, with people of all abilities being able to get something out of this class, including learning practical skills which aid independent living, all for just £8 which includes your lunch!! See the calendars page to find out what we are making and doing in the weeks to come!
